Te Anau Lakefront: A vision for the future
Reset has been working closely with Southland District Council on a vision for the future of Te Anau's 3km lakefront, a much-loved community asset at the heart of one of New Zealand's most iconic tourism destinations.
Following the Te Anau Basin Development Study, the Fiordland Community Board is now exploring practical improvements shaped by strong local feedback. The community has been clear about what it values: open access to the water's edge, places to pause and take in the view, and a landscape that genuinely reflects the natural and cultural character of Te Anau. Stage One concepts respond directly to that, with a wide shared path, a series of seating and viewing nodes, improved ecological planting, and landscape elements rooted in the character of the place.
It is a project that matters. A well-designed lakefront strengthens the community's connection to the water, enhances the experience for visitors, and creates a lasting public asset for the township. We are looking forward to seeing the vision develop.
